Howard County police investigating single vehicle fatal crash

HOWARD COUNTY, MD – Howard County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision in Jessup on Monday afternoon in which one person was killed.

At approximately 10:41 a.m., a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on Route 1 approaching Route 32 when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and came to rest in a wooded drainage area. The driver and sole occupant, 59-year-old Ivan Claude Merrill Jr. of Jessup, was transported to Howard County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. A portion of Route 1 south was closed for approximately three hours.
