Buffalo Man Arranged for Attempted Murder

PRESS RELEASE  – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 19-year-old Jakyia A. Williams of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday morning before Cheektowaga Town Court Justice David M. Stevens on one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class “B” violent felony), one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class “D” felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor).

It is alleged that on Monday, September 5, 2022, at approximately 8:03 p.m., the defendant intentionally stabbed the male victim in the upper torso with a knife. The crime occurred after the defendant allegedly arranged to meet the victim outside of a fast food restaurant on Thruway Plaza in the Town of Cheektowaga. The victim, who was sitting the in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle outside of the restaurant, drove himself to Sisters of Charity Hospital St. Joseph’s Campus after the attack. He was treated for the injury and released.

Williams is scheduled to return on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. She was held without bail.

If convicted of the highest charge, Williams faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Cheektowaga Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meredith M. Mohun of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
