New York City robbery suspect killed by subway train while fleeing police

New York, NY – A New York City subway train robber who held a 46-year-old at gunpoint on a northbound number 2 train near 174th Street this morning was killed while fleeing from police.

The New York City Police Department said the suspect was struck and killed by a subway train while fleeing police chasing him after he had robbed a person at gunpoint shortly after 6 a.m. Monday morning.

The man was one of four suspects who robbed the 46-year-old passenger at gunpoint. After the robbery, the four suspects boarded the number five train, but an alert subway rider notified 911 and police were waiting for them happy 180th Street Station.

After the train stopped, one of the teenage suspects attempted to flee the police by jumping onto another moving train on a nearby platform. According to police he did not make it to the train and fell in between train cars and was killed instantly.

Police said the suspects were all between 16 and 18 years old. One of the suspects needed to be tasered before being brought into custody.
