BUFFALO, NY – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 20-year-old Javair D. Walker of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony).

It is alleged that on August 16, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the defendant intentionally fired at least one shot from an illegal gun into a crowd of people who were involved in a fight in the vicinity of Page Street and Lawn Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim, a 17-year-old female, was hit once in the chest by gunfire. She was transported by ambulance to ECMC where was pronounced dead.

The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located the defendant in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The defendant waived extradition and was brought back to Western New York last week.

Walker was held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

If convicted of the highest charge, Walker faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends Detective Jerry Guliani, Detective Tim Rooney, Lieutenant Charles Miller and Officer Chelsea Rogowski of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force for locating the defendant.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Patrick B. Shanahan and Assistant District Attorney Stanislaw Makowski of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
