Picturesque Jersey Shore Beachfront Restaurant Shuts Down After 33 Years

AVON, NJ – The Avon Pavillion is one of a handful of beachfront restaurants at the Jersey Shore, but this week, the restaurant announced it would not be reopening again. The Pavillion was devastated during Superstorm Sandy ten years ago but was rebuilt and survived the storm.

After Sandy damaged the structure, it was eventually demolished, rebuilt, and reopened. At first, as a makeshift structure built out of connected shipping containers and a party tent, but eventually into its own new and beautiful free-standing structure.

This week, the team over at the Avon Pavillion announced the closure.

“It is with a very heavy heart to announce that the Avon Pavilion will be closing its doors after 33 incredible and wonderful years,” the Pavillion published on its Facebook page. “It feels impossible to adequately express our gratitude for the lifelong friendships and memories created at the Avon Pavilion.”

“Generations of employees and guests alike, united as a community through 33 years of triumphs and tribulations… celebrations, graduations, marriages, births and life events! Together, we rebuilt the Avon Pavilion from the ground up after storms and floods, several times over,” the company said. “We persevered through a global pandemic. And mourned the heartbreaking loss of Mama and Papa Fishman, Aunt Millie, Cesar Torralba, Steve Culloo, Joe Crowley, Curtis ‘Snoopy’ Moreland and many more precious souls who touched us along the way.”

The building will go to public bid for a new lease through a municipal bidding process. The next tenant will be obligated to maintain a restaurant and snack stand, according to officials.
