Hamburg, NY- A forty-three-year-old woman from Hamburg, New York, was arraigned on Friday for one count of grand larceny in the third degree for the theft of $6,000 from a local youth hockey team.
According to police, Colleen Wheeler is accused of stealing the money while working as the manager of the Hamburg Hawks youth hockey program between 2019 and 2022.
An investigation by the Erie County District Attorney’s office claims Wheeler stole the money by making a series of unauthorized transactions from the team’s bank account while failing to pay for her own child’s hockey team fees.
Wheeler is scheduled to return on Thursday, November 10, at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. She was released on her own recognizance as the charge is a non-qualifying offense for bail. If convicted of the charge, Wheeler faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.
