Newark murder toll climbs to 45 after two men shot and killed Saturday

NEWARK, NJ – So far in 2022, 45 people have been murdered in Newark. This includes two men who were shot and killed Saturday in two separate incidents just minutes apart.

At around 3:15 am, 36-year-old Altariq Johnson was found shot on the 100 block of Brenner Street. Johnson was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

At around 3:45 am, 31-year-old Jordan Rodriguez was shot on Broadway and rushed to University Hospital. He was pronounced dead inside the emergency room there.

Police have not identified any suspects in either shooting, and no arrests have been made at this time.
