Suspect charged for murder of 17-year-old Aniyah Elie in Columbus

Homicide detectives have charged a 19-year-old man with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl that occurred earlier this month near the Short North.

COLUMBUS, OH – A 19-year-old male was charged with the shooting murder of 17-year-old Aniyah Elie on October 16th. According to detectives, Kyrique Camper was taken into custody and charged.

Police alleged Camper was the gunman who shot into a group of teens at around 9:45 pm on that day near North 4th and 11th Street.

Acoording to police, “officers responded to a local hospital where Aniyah Elie was dropped off with a gunshot wound. The victim got into an altercation with another group earlier that night at a grocery store located in the 1300 block of North High Street. The teenager was shot after later meeting up with the same group at the intersection of North 4th Street and East 11th Avenue.”

Ms. Elie died a few hours after being rushed to the hospital.
