TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Senate President Nicholas Scutari’s chief of staff has resigned and it has been reported that he will be pleading guilty to federal income tax charges.
Tony Texiera is a powerful political figure in North Jersey and served as the chairman of the Elizabeth Democrat Party. He is an influential Union County political operative who also served as chief of staff t former state senator Ray Lesniak.
Scaturi confirmed he has received Texiera’s resignation.
“Tony Teixeira will be admitting to federal tax violations,” the second highest ranking elected official in New Jersey confirmed. “I have received his resignation.”
“I am glad Tony is accepting responsibility for his personal financial actions,” Scaturi said in the statement. “Whether you are in elected office or serving as a member of staff, residents deserve the highest of standards and public officials beyond reproach.”
