Gunman in 2020 Jersey City murder gets 20 years in state prison

Jersey City, NJ- The man who shot and killed 38-year-old Abimael Fuentes on April 21st, 2020 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. According to court records, Bernard Wilson, 29, shot and killed Fuentes on Brinkerhoff Street between Monticello Avenue and Bergen Avenue in Jersey City.

Fuentes was pronounced dead later at the hospital with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

“The State thanks the court for its diligence in this matter to see that this defendant’s sentence will deter him from committing any additional violent crimes in our community,” said Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Baginski.

Roof included guilty to a single count of manslaughter.
