Three Teen Suspects Arrested for Armed Carjacking

GAITHERSBURG, MD – Three teenagers have been arrested for a carjacking in Montgomery County on Monday.

At around 1:34, am police responded to the 7800 block of Guildberry Court after the report of an armed carjacking.

“The investigation by detectives has determined that after the adult male victim parked his blue 2015 Toyota Corolla at the location, three suspects approached him,” the Montgomery County Police Department said. “Two of the suspects produced a handgun, demanded the victim’s car and forcibly removed him from the Toyota. One of the suspects took the victim’s cell phone and threw it away. The suspects left the scene in the Toyota Corolla towards Snouffer School Rd.”

Later, police officers observed the car in the area of Montgomery Village Avenue and Christopher Avenue

“Officers attempted to pull the car over, but the driver of the Toyota refused to stop and continued driving at a high rate of speed. The suspects lost control and crashed in the area of 270 and Democracy Blvd. The three occupants in the Toyota were arrested,” the department said.

18-year-old Zyier Brown, of Washington, D.C., 18-year-old Jayla Newman, of Washington, D.C., and a 16-year-old, of Upper Marlboro, MD, were each charged carjacking and firearms charges.

A search of the vehicle revealed two unloaded handguns, one of which had a drum magazine.
