Body of man found hanging behind Central Park landmark

NEW YORK – The body of a man was found hanging inside a gazebo behind the Central Park Naumberg Bandshell early Friday morning. The body was discovered shortly after sunrise and police were notified.

Police said the man is estimated to be around 50 years of age. His body was discovered at around 7 am near East Drive and East 72nd street. He was found hanging in a nearby gazebo by a rope tied around his neck.

Police don’t suspect foul play and believe the incident to be a suicide. He was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, the man’s identity was not released by police.
