Threat to Toms River Intermediate East unfounded, police say

Toms River Intermediate East - Toms River, NJ

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Police in Toms River investigated a reported threat at Toms River Intermediate East, located on Hooper Avenue Monday morning.

“Police are currently at Intermediate East investigating a potential swatting incident/threat. Out of an abundance of caution, the area is being thoroughly checked prior to students entering the building,” police said earlier Monday morning.

The threat was deemed not credible by investigators and the area was cleared. Police suspect the incident was another swatting incident, where a perpetrator calls in a fake report of violence or threats in order to produce a large police response.

“The area has been cleared, and the threat was deemed unfounded,” police said later.
