PITTSBURGH, PA – Detectives with the Pittsburgh Police Department say a man found unconscious on Coffey Way on Tuesday died from injuries sustained by a bb gun.

According to police, early Thursday morning, officers and the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS responded to an unconscious male found in Coffey Way near Sixth Avenue. Medics transported him to the hospital for a suspected overdose.

“Violent Crime Unit detectives were later called to the hospital after medical tests revealed the male had some type of metal shrapnel, possibly from a bb gun, in his body,” police said.

He was pronounced deceased in the hospital Thursday morning. Police have identified suspects in the shooting through video evidence, but did not say how many suspects or release any identification at this time.
