Boyfriend who murdered 16-year-old Sunday night in NYC in custody

NEW YORK, NY – The New York City Police Department has announced an arrest in the investigation of the death of a 16-year-old girl in Manhattan on Sunday.

Saniyah Lawrence died after being stabbed in the neck. Today, police said her boyfriend was arrested for her murder.

Zyaire Crumbley’s arrest was announced early Tuesday morning by The NYPD.

Police responded on Sunday to an apartment on Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard at around 5:40 pm to find the girl unresponsive with a large stab wound. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the teen and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Crumbley, were engaged in an argument before he killed her. He was caught on surveillance video exiting the building at the time of the murder.
