18-year-old wins $30,000 with holiday stocking stuffer lottery ticket in Germantown

GERMANTOWN, MD – An 18-year-old woman won the $30,000 top prize on a scratch off lottery ticket she got as a stocking stuffer on Christmas. It was also the first time she had played the lottery.

With her parents in tow, the 18-year-old college student claimed her prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters last week.

“For her first Christmas as an adult, the lucky woman received a few scratch-offs from her parents. She had luck on three of the instant tickets, winning $1, $2, and $30,000,” lottery officials said.

“We gave them to her as a stocking stuffer,” her dad explained.

She is a college student majoring in Digital Arts. She plans to put the scratch-off prize into her savings account.

“It was shocking and a weird feeling” to win, she said, adding, “it was surreal.”

The ticket was sold by Shoppers on Mateny Road in Germantown. They will receive $300 for selling the winning ticket.
