23-year-old woman shot dead in bedroom with gunshot wound to head in Queens

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at approximately 2010 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a wellness check/unconscious female inside of 59-49 56 Drive, within the confines of the 104 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 23-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, lying within a first-floor bedroom.

NEW YORK, NY – A young woman was found shot, dead in her Queens home on Wednesday. Upon arrival officers with the New York City Police Department’s 104th Precinct found 23-year-old Alexa Ruiz lying in a first floor bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police arrived at the home in Flushing at around 8:10 pm on Wednesday after receiving a 911 to request a wellness check.

Ruiz was unconscious. EMS personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

“On Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at approximately 2010 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a wellness check/unconscious female inside of 59-49 56 Drive, within the confines of the 104 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 23-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, lying within a first-floor bedroom. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the aided female deceased at the scene.

“Further investigation revealed the female sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing,” the NYPD said on Friday.

At this time, no arrests have been made.
