‘Transgender Woman’ Who Allegedly Stripped Naked In Front Of Kid Previously Sued For Access To Women’s Locker Room

Christynne Wood, a transgender individual who was allegedly naked in front of a teenage girl in a YMCA women’s locker room in a recent headline-grabbing incident, had previously sued a different facility for access to women’s locker rooms with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union in 2021.
Wood, a male who identifies as a transgender woman, recently came forward as the individual at the center of an incident in which a 17-year-old girl saw a naked man inside a YMCA locker room while showering, according to ABC 10 San Diego. Wood, who began transitioning in 2016, reporting being “absolutely crushed” by the negative attention the incident had drawn, according to ABC, and compared it to the famous 1955 murder of a black child in Mississippi, according to the Times of San Diego.
“I’m Christynne Lili Wrene Wood. I’m the scary transgender woman who that child misidentified as a man,” Wood told counter-protesters at a Wednesday demonstration in support of Rebecca Phillips, the 17-year old girl who had reportedly seen Wood naked in the women’s facilities, according to the Times of San Diego. Phillips’ story grabbed national attention after she spoke about her experience at a city council meeting, inspiring the large protest.

“As I was showering after my workout, I saw a naked male in the women’s locker room. I immediately went back into the shower, terrified, and hid behind their flimsy excuse for a curtain until he was gone,” Phillips said at the Jan. 11 city council meeting, according to Fox News. “When I asked the YMCA management what the policy was regarding transgenders, they confirmed that the man I saw was allowed to shower wherever he pleased.”
Wood compared critics of male access to women’s facilities to the treatment of Emmett Till, a 14-year old black boy who was murdered in Mississippi in 1955, while counter-protesting at the event for Phillips, according to the Times of San Diego.
“I don’t know what’s in the mind of that child,” Wood told the outlet. “So there’s a movie out right now about how that kind of a lie and hysteria can lead to tragedy … The movie’s called ‘Till’ about Emmett Till. The lies of a person got that child beat to death and that’s just the kind of group [here] that would love to pull a stunt like that.”
“Thank God, I’ve got protection and people with me that see to it that I don’t suffer that kind of pain. But don’t you think that there aren’t people over there right now that would love to come over and rip me piece [by] piece,” Wood said.
Wood’s dustups over women’s changing facilities began in 2016 when Crunch Gym in El Cajon, California, denied Wood’s requests to begin using the women’s locker rooms; Woods had been working out there as a man and using male facilities for nine years before adopting a female identity, according to the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, which brought the lawsuit. Wood ultimately received an undisclosed payment as part of a settlement which also required the gym to put its employees through anti-discrimination training including on the issue of gender expression.
Christynne Wood did not respond to a Facebook message request. The Cameron Family YMCA in Santee and the ACLU Foundation of Southern California did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
