Pittsburgh fugitive wanted for murder captured by U.S. Marshals

PITTSBURGH, PA – A fugitive wanted for murder in Pittsburgh after a December 26th altercation turned deadly has been captured by U.S. Marshals.

Police arrested 42-year-old Ambrose J. Sample Jr in the 200 block of Dinwiddie Street at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Western PA Fugitive Task Force, Pittsburgh SWAT, and Pittsburgh Fugitive Apprehension Unit.

Sample was charged in the homicide that occurred at a business in the 3200 block of Brighton Road on December 26, 2022.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Police in Zone 1 responded to the 3300 block of Brighton Road for reports of a gunshot victim.  Arriving officers found a male with gunshot wounds. EMS transported the victim in critical condition. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Police believe the shooting may have occurred after an altercation at a nearby business.
