Four injured in Bay Ridge as U-Haul truck fled police stop

NEW YORK, NY – At least four people have been reported injured in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn Monday morning when the driver of a U-Haul attempted to flee police near the intersection of Bay Ridge Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway.

According to police, the truck was later stopped at the Halimotown Avenue exit of the Gowanus Expressway, where he was surrounded by police in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn.

The suspect was taken into custody by police.

Police have called for the bomb squad to investigate the vehicle. The incident happened on the day when a jury is expected to announce whether or not bike path killer Sayfullo Saipov will face the death penalty for moving down bicyclists, killing eight, and injuring 17.

It’s not known whether or not today’s incident was related to that case.

In Monday’s incident, one man is in critical condition and three others suffered minor injuries. Police did not say why they initiated the traffic stop.
