22-year-old shot and killed in Belmont

NEW YORK, NY – A 22-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed just a few blocks west of the Bronx Zoo in the Belmont section of the city on Monday.

Police with the NYPD’s 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding shots fired inside 689 East 187th Street shortly before 7 pm.

When officers arrived, they found 22-year-old Miguel Vargas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Vargas was treated on scene by EMS before being taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not made any arrests or identified any suspects as a result of an ongoing homicide investigation.
