Seven teens arrested in stolen car after crash

SILVER SPRING – Six teens have been arrested as a result of proactive police details investigating an increase in car thefts across Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County Department of Police Major Crimes Division has charged seven juveniles with auto theft, including one 14-year-old, three 15-year-olds, two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old. At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, 4th District officers responded to the 12300 block of Livingston St. for a report of a suspicious incident.

The Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES) officers were in the area conducting proactive enforcement, with the 4th District patrol, in response to Hyundai and Kia theft trends. They also responded to the location. A preliminary investigation revealed that officers observed a red Hyundai Sonata leaving the area at high speed, and determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Washington, D.C.

Soon after the Sonata was involved in a traffic collision, seven suspects fled the scene and were arrested without incident. Officers were able to locate the suspects and arrest them without incident. In all cases, juvenile suspects were charged with auto theft-related charges and released to their parents or guardians.
