Man with Lakewood ties shot and killed in North Miami robbery

LAKEWOOD, NJ – Police in North Miami Beach reported on Sunday that Hershy Schwartz, 40, was found shot and killed inside his vehicle.

Police located Schwartz unresponsive and unconscious in the area of North Miami Avenue and North East 167th Street.

He was planning to get married in just 10 days to a woman from Lakewood, New Jersey.

The incident happened in a parking lot. Police believe Schwartz was the victim of a robbery. Schwartz was an Orthodox Jew, but police do not believe the homicide to be motivated by anti-Semitism.

Schwartz served with the Chaverim of South Florida.
