Suspect who took car dealer test drive vehicle to Atlantic City arrested

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ – Workers at the Barlow GMC car dealership in Stafford Township realized something was wrong after 47-year-old Barnegat man Jason DeAngelo took a GMC Sierra for a test drive and never returned.

They didn’t expect to learn from police that DeAngelo drove the vehicle to an Atlantic City casino.

DeAngelo took the vehicle at around 11 am and it was reported stolen to police at 8:15 pm.

A short time later, the vehicle was observed by the Tuckerton Borough Police Department on Rt. 539, and they attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and drove south on the parkway. They did not pursue the vehicle any further.

Police tracked the vehicle to Atlantic City where it was found near the Tropicana Casino.

“This information was received by the Stafford Township Police Department’s
DEU, which was able to gain intelligence that the vehicle and DeAngelo were in the Atlantic City area near the Tropicana Casino.

“The DEU was able to locate the vehicle in the parking garage of the Tropicana Casino unoccupied. The DEU then contacted the New Jersey State Police Casino Operations Unit to help assist in locating DeAngelo in the Tropicana Casino,” the Stafford Township Police Department said today. “Through coordination with security at the Tropicana Casino, the DEU and the New Jersey State Police Casino Unit were able to locate DeAngelo in the Tropicana where he was arrested without incident. He was later transported to the Stafford Township Police Department for processing.”

DeAngelo was charged with 3rd Degree Unlawful taking of Means of Conveyance in Stafford Township, and 2nd Degree Eluding out of Tuckerton Borough.
