Police seeking suspect who shot woman inside Harlem apartment building

NEW YORK, NY – Detectives with the NYPD’s 25th Precinct have identified a suspect wanted for a shooting that injured a 41-year-old woman on Wednesday.

Police said 35-year-old Avery Dunning of 60 East 135th Street is wanted in connection to the shooting which sent the woman to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred Wednesday at around 8:25 am inside the Lincoln Houses, NYCHA project.


“A 41-year-old female building resident was engaged in a dispute with the individual,” the NYPD said today. “The individual displayed a firearm and discharged it at the victim, striking the victim multiple times about the body.”

Avery Dunning – The New York City Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in locating the following individual identified in the attached photos in regard to a shooting that occurred within the confines of the 25th Precinct.

Dunning fled the scene after the shooting. The woman was taken to Harlem Hospital with gunshot wounds to the stomach, thigh and head. She is listed in critical condition.

Dunning is currently a fugitive at-large and is considered armed and dangerous.
