Off-duty NYPD cop injured in fatal crash

NEW YORK, NY – An off-duty NYPD officer was critically injured in a crash that resulted in the death of a passenger in the vehicle he was driving. New York State Police said the white SUV was traveling along the Palisades Interstate Parkway at around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday when it struck the center median, splitting into two pieces.

The off-duty police officer driving the vehicle was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The passenger was pronounced deceased. The NYPD did not employ the passenger.

Police reported the incident was a single-vehicle crash. No other vehicles were involved. When the crash occurred, the vehicle was traveling northbound on the Palisades Parkway in Haverstraw.

After splitting into, the white Hyundai SUV stopped in the grass off the side of the road.
