Homeless man arrested for February murder in Harlem

NEW YORK, NY – Police with the city’s 28th Precinct have arrested 63-year-old homeless man Walter Shannon for a February 23rd shooting.

Shannon was charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police received a 911 call on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at around 2:54 pm concerning a gunshot victim at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue intersection in the 28 Precinct. Upon arriving to the scene, officers found an unconscious and unresponsive male with a bullet wound in their chest. EMS was called to transfer the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem, where he was declared deceased.

The victim was later identified as 57-year-old Eddie Council.
