JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of 41-year-old Issa Almaet for insurance fraud on Thursday.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit discovered that Almaet submitted a fraudulent insurance claim for a vehicle involved in a collision.

Charged with one count of insurance fraud, a third-degree crime, Almaet was arrested and released pending his first court appearance, tentatively scheduled for March 23rd.

The investigation found that Almaet filed a false claim with GEICO, claiming that a 2014 Jeep Cherokee sustained damage after purchasing an insurance policy, while concealing that the damage occurred before the policy’s purchase. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
