One dead, multiple people injured in Milton crash

MILTON, DE – Three people were injured, and one person was killed in a crash early Thursday morning in Milton. The two car crash took place at around 6:47 am between a Ford Escord and a Ford Fiesta near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 5.

Investigators with the Delaware State Police said that at approximately 6:47 a.m., a 2022 Ford Escort was traveling east on State Route 5, approaching the posted stop sign at the intersection with State Route 1.

“At the same time, a 2011 Ford Fiesta was traveling southbound on State Route 1 approaching the intersection with State Route 5,” DSP said in a statement today. “For unknown reasons, the driver of the Escort failed to remain stopped at the stop sign, and he drove into the southbound lanes of Route 1 as he attempted to cross the highway to turn northbound. As a result, the front of the Fiesta struck the left rear of the Escort. This caused the Escort to begin spinning until it struck a fence off the east side of the northbound lanes of Route 1. The Fiesta also began rotating on the road, which led to a 2005 Honda Accord striking the Fiesta in the middle of the southbound lanes.”

An 81-year-old man from Millsboro, Delaware, who drove the Escort was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. In addition to the 75-year-old passenger in the Escort, the driver of the Accord, a 32-year-old man from Hartly, Delaware, was not injured. She was also taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sadly, the driver of the Fiesta, a 30-year-old woman from Clayton, Delaware, died from her injuries after being critically injured in the crash. Her family is awaiting notification of her death.
