Police say fatal crash in Ellicott City result of medical episode

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Police investigating a single-vehicle collision that took the life of a 44-year-old Deale man was caused by an apparent medical episode.

Early Sunday morning, Deale was driving his Dodge Caravan westbound on the Route 100 exit ramp toward Route 104 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a group of trees.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting the accident at around 7:30 am.
 
The deceased was identified as Victor Michael Collier, 44. He was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital a short time later. Two juvenile passengers in the vehicle were not injured.
 
Police are investigating whether the driver may have had a medical emergency prior to the collision; the investigation is ongoing. The ramp from westbound Route 100 to Route 104 was closed for approximately three hours.
