Queens Man Convicted of Attempted Murder for Shooting at MTA Bus, Faces 25 Years in Prison

QUEENS, NY – District Attorney Melinda Katz announced yesterday the conviction of Melvin Adams, 45, for attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first and second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degree, and reckless endangerment in the first degree. Adams shot at an MTA bus in August 2021, striking two passengers. He faces a possible sentence of 25 years in prison by Queens Supreme Court Justice Gary Miret on April 21, 2023.

Adams fired three shots at a pedestrian on Jamaica Avenue, missing his target but shooting through the windshield of a nearby MTA Q8 bus. Two passengers sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Adams was arrested shortly after the incident with a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in his possession.
