Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Drug Overdose in Pequannock Township

PEQUANNOCK TOWNSHIP, NJ – Yesterday, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll has announced the arrest of David Pezak, 34, formerly of Saddle Brook, Bergen County. Pezak faces charges of first-degree Strict Liability for Drug-Induced Death and other drug-related offenses stemming from a fatal drug overdose that occurred in Pequannock Township on November 15, 2021.

Pezak’s charges include first-degree Strict Liability for Drug-Induced Death, third-degree Conspiracy to Distribute, third-degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, third-degree Possession of a CDS, and a disorderly persons offense of Possession of CDS Paraphernalia. The Strict Liability for Drug-Induced Death statute holds drug manufacturers, distributors, or dispensers strictly liable for any death resulting from the use of their substances.

Pezak is currently detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility, awaiting future court proceedings. Multiple law enforcement agencies contributed to the investigation and arrest, including the Pequannock Township Police Department, the Saddle Brook Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
