Newport News Police Department seeks leads in March murder case

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Authorities in Newport News, are requesting the public’s assistance in solving a recent homicide that occurred on March 24, 2023. Officers were alerted to the sound of gunshots in the 1100 block of 25th Street around 8:30 PM and discovered 59-year-old John Claud outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators are now urging anyone with any knowledge of the incident, no matter how small, to come forward and contact the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit an anonymous tip online at P3Tips.com. Informants to the Crime Line are never required to testify in court and may qualify for a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to an arrest. The police department is relying on the community’s support to help identify the person or persons responsible for the crime and bring them to justice.
