MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) arrested 41-year-old Karla Vanessa Martinez of Springfield, TN, for abducting her 8-year-old granddaughter, Miriam Garcia, on March 25, 2023.
Through their investigation, detectives identified Martinez as the suspect and found that she had taken the child to Springfield, TN.
On March 27, an arrest warrant was obtained for Martinez, charging her with kidnapping-related charges. Martinez and Garcia were located in Springfield, TN, on Thursday, with the child found safe and unharmed. Martinez awaits extradition to Montgomery County, MD, while Garcia has been reunited with her family.
