Three teens arrested for shooting at cops in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of Jmahri Grimes-Wallace, 19, of Newark, along with two 15-year-old males, in connection with a police-involved shooting that occurred on March 29, 2023. Detectives patrolling the area of Clifford Street and Pulaski Street observed four individuals in ski masks near a red Hyundai with a broken rear window. Upon seeing the police, the individuals fled before one of them fired at the detectives.

Grimes-Wallace and one of the juveniles were apprehended in a rear yard on Chestnut Street, where Grimes-Wallace was found in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun reported stolen from Richmond County, Georgia, as well as cocaine and heroin.

The second juvenile was apprehended on Delancy Street. Grimes-Wallace faces multiple charges, including criminal attempt, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and drug-related offenses. The two juveniles are each charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of the administration of the law. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
