Mahwah Woman Arrested for Setting Fire Inside Her Condominium

MAHWAH, NJ – Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Amel Mersali, a 32-year-old Mahwah resident, on charges of aggravated arson. The arrest comes after an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mahwah Police Department.

On Tuesday, at approximately 4:01 p.m., the Mahwah Police Department responded to a residential fire at 2102 Hawthorne Lane, a multi-unit condominium building. Investigators discovered that Mersali had intentionally set the fire inside her residence, causing significant damage.

Mersali has been charged with second-degree aggravated arson and third-degree causing or risking widespread injury or damage. She is currently being held at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for further treatment and evaluation. A court date will be scheduled upon her release from the medical facility.
