Maryland trooper returns to duty after crash move over law violation

MARYLAND – After being involved in a three-vehicle collision on February 24, 2023, Trooper Ware has returned to duty, expressing gratitude for the support he received during his recovery. “It’s great to be back, and I’m glad to return to doing what I love,” said Trooper Ware, emphasizing the importance of road safety for both first responders and the public.

In light of Trooper Ware’s return, a reminder has been issued about Maryland’s Move Over Law, which mandates changing lanes or slowing down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying warning signals. This includes hazard warning lights, road flares, traffic cones, and caution signs. The law is in place to protect emergency responders, tow truck drivers, and other roadside workers from being injured while performing their duties.

Violations of the Move Over Law can result in fines and points on a driver’s license. The Maryland State Police urge all motorists to stay vigilant on the roads and to exercise caution when approaching stopped vehicles to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
