GLEN BURNIE, MD – A family gathering in the 7300 block of Red Pond Court in Glen Burnie turned deadly when a 27-year-old man identified as Daniel Ayim Amponsah became agitated and produced a handgun, threatening his family members. Amponsah then shot his uncle, 47-year-old Kofi Frempong, as the other family members rushed out of the home.

Before patrol officers could reach Amponsah, evidence at the scene indicated that he turned the firearm on himself. Officers located both Frempong and Amponsah and administered medical aid, but both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives investigated the incident and determined that it was a homicide/suicide based on the totality of the evidence and consistent statements from witnesses involved. The motive behind Amponsah’s actions is still under investigation.

“The community is reminded to seek help and resources when dealing with personal or family issues that could escalate to violence. Tragedies like this can be avoided if proper intervention is sought in time,” the department said.
