MANHATTAN, NY – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced on Thursday the indictment of Kimond Cyrus, 39, for the alleged murder of Seung Chul Choi, a 67-year-old Upper East Side deli clerk.
Cyrus faces charges of Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
According to court documents and statements, Cyrus committed four gunpoint robberies across three boroughs in one week, wearing white Tyvek hazmat suits, a facemask, and gloves. On March 3, 2023, Cyrus allegedly entered Daona Deli on East 81st Street, demanded money from a customer, and turned his attention to Mr. Choi when he refused to comply.
After following Mr. Choi to the rear of the store, a gunshot was heard, and Mr. Choi was found dead at the scene.
Cyrus was arrested a few days later in the Bronx, and a court-authorized search warrant led to the recovery of a loaded firearm and stolen property from the Bronx deli. Cyrus is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
