UTICA, NY – At approximately 5:15 PM on Thursday, Utica Police units were dispatched to the 600 block of Blandina St regarding a larceny from a vehicle that was in progress. The caller stated that she had witnessed a juvenile male enter her parked vehicle and remove property from within. The suspect fled the scene on foot, and the witness provided a description of the suspect.

Responding officers quickly located and apprehended the suspect, a 15-year-old male, a short distance away from the scene. The stolen property was recovered, and the juvenile was charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree. He was released to the custody of a family member and is scheduled to appear in Oneida County Family Court at a later date.

The Utica Police Department is reminding residents to always lock their vehicles and remove valuable items from plain sight when leaving their cars unattended. Taking these simple precautions can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of theft.
