Police capture fugitive wanted for driving Mercedes into police vehicles, striking officer

MORICHES, NY – Christian Castillo, who had been evading police for over a month, was finally arrested in Moriches on Saturday after an extensive manhunt. Castillo was wanted for intentionally crashing a 2022 Mercedes into two police vehicles and striking an officer on foot in North Lindenhurst in early March. The incident led to a significant response from law enforcement, with Major Case Unit detectives coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend Castillo.

The capture of Castillo brings to an end a high-profile pursuit, during which law enforcement agencies collaborated to gather intelligence and monitor potential locations where the suspect might be hiding. The arrest operation involved a combination of surveillance, informants, and inter-agency cooperation, ultimately leading to Castillo’s capture in Moriches.

Castillo now faces multiple charges, including Assault 2nd Degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and Resisting Arrest. The severity of the charges reflects the extent of the damage caused during the North Lindenhurst incident, as well as the risk posed to the police officers involved.
