Florida Man Convicted of Murder in Fatal Shooting in Jersey City BJ’s Parking Lot

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that yesterday, a Hudson County jury has convicted Ariel Dumit, a 37-year-old man from Florida, on all counts relating to the shooting death of Christian Parra, 34, of Jersey City, on February 28, 2021. Dumit was found guilty of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The trial lasted two weeks and was held before the Honorable Carlo Abad, J.S.C.

The case began on February 28, 2021, when Jersey City Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at the BJ’s parking lot on Marin Boulevard.

Christian Parra was found with a gunshot wound to the torso and was later pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the torso and the manner of death as homicide.

Ariel Dumit now faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison at his sentencing, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 13, 2023. The case underscores the commitment of law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office to bring justice to victims and their families and ensure the safety of the community.
