Suspect charged with gun, drugs on Mohawk Valley Community College campus

UTICA, NY – Police have arrested a Rome man after he was caught by school security guards with a gun and drugs while on campus at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC).

On April 10th, 2023, MVCC Public Safety Officers conducted a vehicle stop on the college campus, uncovering a loaded handgun and a large quantity of narcotics.

Brandon Dobbs, 37, of Rome, NY, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in various degrees.

Due to an existing agreement between the Utica Police Department and MVCC regarding felony-level crimes, UPD was assigned to the case.

The UPD praised the diligent work of the MVCC officers, who conducted the stop and follow-up investigation, ultimately leading to Dobbs’ arrest.
