PITTSBURGH, PA – A Westmoreland County man has been charged for abusing a corpse and other crimes after being arrested this week.

On Friday, authorities announced the arrest of 33-year-old Bradley Smith of Arnold, Westmoreland County.

Smith was charged with conspiracy and abuse of a corpse in connection with the body of Lavarr Carroll, found in Scott Township in May 2022. Following the filing of charges, the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit provided information that led investigators to Smith’s location at a residence in New Kensington.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office, alongside the New Kensington Police Department, proceeded to arrest Smith without incident. Smith was then arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Frank Pallone, who denied bond. He was subsequently transported to the Allegheny County Jail. In addition to the current charges, Smith also has an active warrant for violating state parole related to a 2011 voluntary manslaughter conviction involving a shooting in the City of Pittsburgh.
