Shots Fired on East Main Street in Newark

NEWARK, DE – On Saturday, at about 12:31 a.m., Newark Police officers were in the 100-block of East Main Street when they heard gunshots being fired. Officers responded to the area of 174 East Main Street and observed a group of subjects. Witnesses reported that the person who fired the gun fled the area in a vehicle, which was stopped minutes later by officers. The vehicle was operated by Khadijah Brown, 30, of Wilmington. Brown was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no firearm was found inside. She was later released.

Further investigation at the scene led to the discovery of shell casings on the ground. Surveillance video and witness interviews revealed that Brown and another female engaged in an argument with other persons in the area of 174 East Main Street.

A handgun was produced by a second female suspect who fired it into the air. Brown and the second female fled in the vehicle, but the second female exited the vehicle and fled on foot prior to police contact.

No one was injured by the gunfire. Newark Police obtained arrest warrants for Brown, and she has since been taken into custody. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Cpl. D. Burgess at (302) 366-7100 x. 3473 or dburgess@newark.de.us.
