Essex County man heading to prison for stealing credit cards through U.S. Post Office

NEWARK, NJ – A man from Essex County has been sentenced to 82 months in prison, along with three years of supervised release and $330,391 in restitution for his involvement in a scheme to steal credit cards from mailboxes.

Dashaun Brown, 29, was found guilty of four counts of conspiracy, bank fraud, receipt and possession of stolen mail, and aggravated identity theft in connection with bank fraud.

Brown worked with at least one United States Postal Service employee and other individuals to steal credit cards and then use the victims’ identities to make online and retail purchases worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Brown was sentenced on April 28, 2023, after being convicted on April 22, 2022.
