CHICAGO, IL – Uber drivers are being targeted by armed thieves who aren’t afraid to use violence in the Austin section of Chicago.
A series of armed robberies, strong-arm robberies, and aggravated vehicular hijackings have recently taken place in the 15th District of Austin, according to a community/business alert issued by the Bureau of Detectives’ Area Four.
The crimes were committed by several males wearing all-black clothing, who approached victims on foot, demanding property and battering victims before fleeing with their belongings. In some cases, the victims were Uber drivers.
The incidents occurred between March 8 and April 30 of this year, at various locations including the 5200 block of West Ferdinand, West Kinzie, and North Laramie, and the 400 block of South Central.
