Chicago Uber drivers being targeted in recent robberies

CHICAGO, IL – Uber drivers are being targeted by armed thieves who aren’t afraid to use violence in the Austin section of Chicago.

A series of armed robberies, strong-arm robberies, and aggravated vehicular hijackings have recently taken place in the 15th District of Austin, according to a community/business alert issued by the Bureau of Detectives’ Area Four.

The crimes were committed by several males wearing all-black clothing, who approached victims on foot, demanding property and battering victims before fleeing with their belongings. In some cases, the victims were Uber drivers.

The incidents occurred between March 8 and April 30 of this year, at various locations including the 5200 block of West Ferdinand, West Kinzie, and North Laramie, and the 400 block of South Central. The police have requested that anyone with information about the crimes contact Area Four Detectives at 312-746-8253.
