Police urge Schenectady residents to lock car doors after two reported break-ins

SCHENECTADY, NY – Residents of Schenectady, New York, are being urged to lock their car doors and keep valuable items out of sight following two attempted car break-ins early Thursday morning.

The incidents occurred between 12:00am and 3:00am in the area of Steinmetz Park and Kailberg Park.

Residents are reminded to take precautions to protect their property, including locking car doors and keeping valuable items out of sight. Police have advised that residents who need to keep items in their car should ensure that they are stored indoors or are completely hidden from view.

According to reports made on the Ring Neighbors app, at least two attempts were made to break into cars during the early morning hours.

The Schenectady Police Department is currently investigating the incidents and is asking residents to contact them if they observe any suspicious activity or believe they may have been a victim of a crime. Emergency situations should be reported by calling 911, while non-emergencies can be reported to 518-630-0911.
