72-year-old attacked with hammer in Chelsea

New York City, NY – A 72-year-old man was attacked with a hammer by an unknown suspect in Chelsea on Wednesday at around 1528 hours, in front of 255 West 23 Street.

According to the police report, the 72-year-old male victim was walking when he was approached by an unknown individual who pushed him and struck him in the leg with a hammer.

The suspect then fled the scene, heading eastbound on 23rd Street. The victim was treated on the spot.

The NYPD has released an image of the suspect and is asking the public for help in identifying him. The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion, standing approximately 6’ tall, and weighing around 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hat, blue surgical mask, green jacket, dark-colored pants, and black sneakers.
