NEW YORK – Police have arrested and charged a 56-year-old man in connection to an assault on police officers that occurred in Midtown Manhattan.
Benjamin Abrams was taken into custody on Saturday, at approximately 11 am.
He is facing multiple charges including assault on a police officer, assault, burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, operator leave scene property damage, leave injury accident, and petit larceny.
The New York City Police Department alleges Abrams struck two uniformed police officers with his vehicle while fleeing a traffic stop at the intersection of Madison Avenue and East 30th Street. The individual then fled eastbound and was involved in a vehicle collision at Lexington Avenue and East 30th Street before fleeing on foot to parts unknown.
The officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
